Talk about feeling helpless - this is unbelievable- like a horror movie that won't stop & just gets worse. WHAT the HELL were Americans thinking when they voted for a maniac - a corrupt minded swindler - to lead them!!!
So true. Democracy at work. Now the maniac has turned on Canada where I live and Diane and the likely next conservative PM Poilievre does not attack him. Thanks again Diane for your analysis. Very worrying.
Sadly every dollar they ( large corporations) give to politicians is a vote thus they are more powerful than the actual voters, who are only valued on Election Day. The implications of the new direction we are now heading in is that if there are elections in the future they will only be for show not effect.
And now, the bros have us all 'jumping like monkeys', or gazing blankly at the devices we're convinced to have always at hand, all to their benefit. Thanks, Diane, for the list. I've managed to completely dis-connect from most; am steadily cutting the weedy tendrils of the remainder. They've steadily ensh**tified their 'product' anyway. We don't need them as much as they need us. Not giving their 'Total System' what it wants anymore.
Hi Diane; Nice article. May tech dont want to be taken over or shut down so many side now with President Trump. The rich will get much richer. EU not so impressed with less fact checking putting truth in the backburner. Lets see if ,any billionaires will give more money to charity or buy more expensive toys. By the way next stop for the extremely rich is Billion dollar subs.
Thanks for painting the emerging picture of the American techno-monarchy. In the past, whenever a new technology (or financial instrument, or a resource) became dominant, it was very beneficial for the group/clique that controlled it. But at some point the new plutocracy starts invoking the divine right of kings and acting like God's anointed. That is when governments go off the rails and become unaccountable. So where are the real democrats right now? They need to be planning the next campaign against absolute governments and wannabee dictators.
😢it is so sad we as a nation have come to this. Talk about Wall Street running government. This a Silicon Valley which runs Wall Street running the government. 😢
I wonder if his would have happened under a Dem government?Doubt it. We can blame Trump and his voters for allowing this. I ask Diane how to remove Trump? UK recently removed Boris Johnson without an election. Can this be done in the US system of government? If not, why not? Thanks.
In the United Ststes, Congress can remove a president. In the case of former PM Boris Johnson, Great Britain has a parliamentary system whereby a leader may be replaced by the political party. Canada also has a parliamentary system, and PM Justin Trudeau was forced to resign as leader.
Thanks Ross. So it is unlikely Congress will remove Trump. Or is it ? Has any President been removed by Congress? Nixon was impeached and resigned. Just wonder Ross and Diane when Trump causes havoc how he can be removed?
fascinating stuff ....and as trump treatens canada with tariffs ....china has said it now wishes to help and create stronger relations with canada....trump is not a chess player or he would see that his moves could force canada into much closer relations with china....
Well written Diane. America appears to have forgotten that its golden age was between 1950 to 1980, when the top tax rate was 70%, what is it now - 37%. Do not people understand that taxes were used to build roads, railways, power supplies, communications (ie telephones & internet) airports, sewerage, water etc. This infrastructure was instrumental in allowing people like Elon Musk & Peter Thiel to make their fortunes. If it wasn’t there, they wouldn’t be either. How is the US going to fund future infrastructure needs? They can’t even maintain the infrastructure they have now.
As far as Zuckerberg & Bezos are concerned, why should anybody be surprised. They are pathetic individuals who are just following the herd. With a bit of luck they will all follow Trump into obscurity (wishful thinking on my part). I was disappointed to see Tim Cook has donated to Trumps cause, being gay, one would think that he at least would have some reservations about Trump.
I agree that the government must have oversight of such technologies as AI, quantum computing etc. Private corporations have no incentive to share any benefits with the society that enables them. Unfortunately, it appears a Trump government will only benefit these tech companies and unless Trump realises that he to will become redundant, then the techno-monarchs, techno-autocrats will be running the country. The government needs to lead, not follow.
Hopefully, Americans will realise sooner rather than later (Democrats, where are you?), that opportunists such as Trump, Musk, Thiel and Ramaswamy have no desire to enable America to succeed, only themselves.
Whilst not a topic of conversation, what gives with Trumps criticisms of fire fighting efforts in LA. Isn’t the President supposed to bring together and support the people of his country in times of difficulty. There will be time for a review of the good and the bad when it is over. Oh, hang on a minute, this might be like his last attempt as President.
ps : I do not use X, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, I do use PayPal, but will be cancelling that soon. Wouldn’t buy a Tesla either
Excellent. This outlines why I worry about DT thinking and talk style gaining traction politically in Canada. There is no vision involved for the country in that mode.

Isn't that the truth! They only pretend to listen to us before an election - then wham - your views are dismissed once elected.
Another great article
