Israel slides toward war in Lebanon and beyond. On September 17 and 18, it provocatively booby-trapped thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies given to Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon and Syria that detonated simultaneously. At least 12 died and 3,000 were wounded. Gaza grinds on without a cease-fire deal with Hamas to free Israeli hostages. Now, nearly a year after the terrorist massacre on October 7, about 60,000 Israelis have been evacuated from their homes in its north due to bombing out of Lebanon by Hezbollah. There is also a third war front in Israel’s West Bank, where settlers and Palestinians clash, causing hundreds of deaths, according to the United Nations. Escalations on all fronts continue, and Israelis again take to the streets against Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. Like workers who have staged mass strikes nationwide, protesters demand a ceasefire and hostage deal. But the terrorists dig in, and Lebanon braces for war or invasion, which could bring about its economic collapse. “Just like in Gaza, Israel is spiraling into war with Hezbollah without a strategy or clear goals,” wrote Haaretz columnist Zvi Bar’el.
