The most important geopolitical event looming is the November US Presidential election. Joe Biden is being pressured to quit following his debate debacle, but refuses to leave and denies having a medical problem. Some Democrats panic and the party is divided. A few believe Biden’s health issue will hand Donald Trump a victory and suggest there should be an open party convention to quickly select another candidate. But it’s too late to do so and, besides, a trained successor, Kamala Harris, is already in place. She’s been one heartbeat away from the Presidency for more than two years, is a valued insider in all decisions, and Biden has never imagined replacing her. This is why Democrats should get real by doubling-down behind this ticket. That’s because if the President slows down or quits, Harris could assume the job seamlessly, a reality that must be articulated to voters. She should also play a major role in the campaign, and is an enormous political asset who ticks off all the “boxes”. She is female, Black, Asian, tough, and a career prosecutor who would make mincemeat out of Trump in a debate or on the campaign trail. Democrats should not forget that the 2024 election will not be about health or age. It will be, as always, about gender, social justice, and winning votes from five major constituencies, as data in the charts below reveal. And Kamala is key.
