If only some of our 'so-called' leaders in the West (aka Trudeau) had the same 'insight' as YOU, Diane. Why does politics always get in the way of doing the 'right' thing - or 'seeing straight' if you will. I don't like India due to the 'rape' record of the country that often minimalizes (sp?) women's rights - it has much internal work to do, yet, better India than China or Russia.
Thank you, Diane for this comprehensive report A NEW WORLD ORDER on the intricacies of all of the global relationships. [I tweeted this report.] Wonderful maps and illustrions both pictorially and verbally. India's place is noteworthy.
Modi wants to give India a new name, Bharat, because he thinks India got its name from the British. One time I was high in the snow in Kashmir with a Kashmiri guide who wore boots with no laces, when we came upon an Indian army patrol, led by a couple of officers who fed me tea and grilled liver, and later my guide consented to join us, truth to tell, he wasn't pro-Indian but its nice to have a cuppa tea and they even had a little fire. The officers and I were talking and talking; at one point the major turned to the lieutenant and said: "Lets face it, it was the English who unified India." Fair point, because in 1750 the sub-continent consisted of about 600 princely states plus the fading Mughal empire, multiple languages, multiple races, multiple religions and multiple castes. One can fairly ask the counter-factual what would have happened if no European traders had ever arrived, or if it had been the French, imbued with absolutism, rather than the British, imbued with parliamentary democracy, who then guided the sub-continent's fortunes for the next 200 years. I mention this because Modi is a divider not a uniter, and is pursuing an absolutist policy as shown by his choice of Mohammed bin Salman as his new best friend, while persecuting India’s 200 million Muslims. Yes, there’s a new ‘scramble for Africa’ but I suggest they are well aware that the Russians are there as gangsters and the Chinese as loan-sharks. Yes, some of the Sahel countries have kicked the French out but they’re still speaking French, and when they leave in hope of a better life they don’t try for China and even less Russia, but France and EU generally. True, India with 1400 million people has just now overtaken Britain with 67 million but now global warming is tightening its grip with bi-weekly terrible events and no one can see a way out of the trap. It may be a little early to be talking of a new world order.
As usual, Diane, you present facts in an organized fashion and completely understandable. I wished the leaders of the free world would subscribe to your letter. Politics and greed get in the way of common sense to protect society which is fast becoming unmanageable because of technology and social media. Let's hope India remains a democratic country to balance other world leaders.
meanwhile trudeau continues to damage relations with india.....if it is true that india was somehow connected with the assasination of a sikh terrorist in canada,,,surely there must have been some way to deal with the situation behind closed doors... trudeau still smarting from his treatment by modi on his most recent disastrous trip to india....decided to deal with this very delicate situation in the most dramatic way possible....and once again dropped the ball.....

I am so glad that someone ( Diane Francis for example )is able to see and share the big picture.
