Excellent article Diane. I’ve never understood Germany’s sycophancy towards Russia. Is it the ‘Stockholm Syndrome’? Is it penitence over their conduct in WWII? If that’s the case Germany should feel total remorse over their barbarism towards Poland. And how does Germany feel about the Russian territory of Kaliningrad less than 7 hours by vehicle to the German border with nuclear warheads pointed at Europe and Germany basically has a military the size of Italy’s. I don’t understand why no one seems to mind the existence of Russian territory (Kaliningrad) so close to Central and Western Europe. How did Churchill and Roosevelt allow that to happen? East Prussia was originally Polish land in the 13th century. After WWII, East Prussian lands should have gone to Poland, not Russia.

Now you have a fawning country of Germany with an enfeebled military and Russian territory close by. If Nord Stream 2 ever has troubles, Kaliningrad can send out repair ships to take care of maintenance. Sounds like total FUBAR to me.

This is the second read of this article for me today, Diane. Do you, or your editors update or change your articles after posting? Maybe it was too early for me this am, but this latest version corrected what I thought were errors and added additional details that I missed.
