excellent and important article. The GOP and the Media keep positing China as the next war front instead of explaining the complicated but necessary web of world economies and relationships. Fear and anger are so much easier than education and truth.
But then again with the commies, one needs to deal from strength. Trump buzzed the Russian lines in Ukraine with the same B-52s he used to bomb 600 wagner troops into oblivion. The Russian attacks stopped.
Yes and cats like mice....in fact they love them. And that is why Trump is the first president to bomb the Russians and arm Ukraine and to do a No Fly zone in Ukraine that stopped the Russian attacks.
While I agree with your observation regarding China's economic situation, I'm too sure I agree with your comments on China's political position and it's apparent reconciliation with the US. Beware of their motives and be particularly be aware of the Biden Administration’s naivety and incompetence
I am glad to hear this good story, but understand that China is still an autocratic regime out for itself and only itself really, seeking always to increase its control, power and wealth. As interested as it continues to be in surveillance, intellectual property theft, control of its people at home and abroad, and seeing to it that it is never criticized in the media and by any public figures anywhere--without punishment or consequences--that is what I am also hearing about and tracking.
Steven Kotkin is a great resource, I think, for as much of the whole picture, the range of plusses and minuses that apply to China today.
If Biden’s team can improve the situation and take some of the destructive pressure off Ukraine, good, but China has still been joined with Russia in a worldwide propaganda effort which is anti-Western and anti-U.S. Nearly all the migrants and refugees want to come here--China and Russia aren’t welcoming any such people into their countries. But distrust and criticism of the U.S. and the West have become a dominant ideology, which unite China and Russia with the poorer countries--as well as the “Far Left” in the U.S. And this doesn’t work to help Ukraine, which is not only suffering the most devastating and cruel assault from its former colonial overlord, it is also being blocked in selling and providing so much of the staple food that the Middle East and Africa relies upon.
China may not have been participating much militarily in helping Russia and it may also be willing to make some cheap-for- China effort towards peace, but it has also been pitching in mightily in anti-Western and anti-U.S. propaganda. That is what the Putin-Xi alliance is about--turning as much of the world opinion as possible vs “the West”.
Interesting analysis but not sure how much Biden had to do with popping China's Fiscal Spending bubble. In any case, lets pray that this is properly exploited. China murdered 60 million of its own and there needs to be a soft landing for China so that its newly minted middle class can survive.
'Lying down with dogs and getting up with fleas' also applies to the U.S. relationship with China or more accurately the Chinese Communist Party which is only second to North Korea in its willingness to wage war on its own people. Janet Yellen smiles and says this world is big enough for both China and the U.S.; I wonder what India thinks about that mindless slap in the face, not to mention the EU (500 million), Japan (125 million) or even the many countries adjacent to China with combined populations of around 745 million? It's not possible to level the playing field with China because China is an authoritarian dictatorship with an enduring ambition to dominate the world as well as its own people.

And this way damaging our comparative stature and opportunities out in the world. But neither China nor Russia is our worst enemy, we are.

Thank You! I can almost see clearly now.
Brilliant analysis. Once again your information keeps us informed at a higher level than the regular news media.
Excellent though I think the title is unnecessarily humiliating for China.
Excellent, thank you
Very good article! “gas station with nukes” sums up Russia perfectly.
