As an Albertan, sitting on one of the largest oil/gas reserves in the world - I have suffered watching our Federal Leader destroy the oil/gas industry in Saskatchewan AND Alberta in order to win 'brownie' points awarded by the Paris Accord. Trudeau has failed not only Canada but the world with his arrogant policies that have crippled the Canadian economy. Also, when Pipeline EAst was proposed, to cross Canada from the West to the East, it was Quebec that had the power to stop it by saying 'Quebec doesn't have the appetite for a pipeline' while ships from Saudi, loaded with their oil/gas unload at Quebec's harbor. Our current Federal Gov't,supported by a poorly lead NDP leader Singh, are destroying the country's unity - East vs West. Thank you Diane for this article becuz maybe Canadians will finally grow some 'balls' & kick that destructive Liberal Party into outer space where it can do no harm.

Common sense is not so common. Loved your article.

Diane

All we need is a prime minister who could focus long enough to read this and then put away his crayons and do it!

Unfortunately I couldn’t name one leader in the North America alliance to take us there. Tribalism has replaced logic.

Excellent Diane. The most incisive sentence to me that you wrote was-“The anti-development mentality has also infected Canada’s current federal regime, run by environmental zealots who are as misguided as Germany’s were.”

The Liberals are playing right into the hands of the Russians and Saudis. Nice going Justin.

You continually force me to expand my frame of reference and confront the conflicts of idealistic positions (on the environemnt and social behavior, for example) with the realities imposed by global political/power ambitions. We tend to think inside the small boxes of our more immediate experience, and lose sight that important compromises are available as workable solutions if we expand our thought and reasoning beyond those pitifully small boxes. (The Nine-Dot Problem serves as a valuable reminder that solutions are often not obvious.) Thank you!

Love your comments on Trudeaus Green Canada.....

This impressive piece of writing motivated me to convert to a (month-by-month) paid subscription. I don't think that I completely agree without reservation with every aspect of all of the details, but the position taken here is magnificent in its scope and strategic power. I would say it is visionary - perhaps illusory in the current political context - but holds out hope for what we could accomplish - globally! - if we can keep our house and home in order.

'Trudeau has also refused to help the war effort with military aid but, more importantly, by refusing to dramatically boost oil or gas production to replace Russian energy." So may I ask why Diane? Who is pulling the strings that make him behave like this? Who runs Canada? Greens? In my previous country, Ireland, Greens stopped off shore oil developments and nuclear energy plants. So who are to-day's human protectors? The Greens and Trudeau and of course Russia? Great article thanks.

Fortress North America is also self-sufficient in food and drinking water and will be relied upon by the rest of the Democratic/Western world to save their asses (i.e. to save them from themselves).

As a result, there will be no recession here next year unless..... wait for it....Biden and Trudeau continue to interfere with our successful free market economies.

How the mainstream media continue to ignore/not understand this simple concept is incomprehensible. That they can be so stupid/gullible/corrupt is truly astonishing and disappointing.

Three Amigos??? - Cmon Diane, throw him a bone :-) The original 3 Amigos were the ones pressing Europe to switch from Russian gas to American gas. https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/18/politics/rick-perry-ukraine-giuliani-subpoena/index.html

Resource maps never show prospects and Canada is at the top of that list.

Quebec / Maritimes are sitting on a wallop of potential. Hudson Bay lowlands as well.

Huge BC offshore. Yes, the Artic too. Prairies beyond belief. Hard not to ID a Canadian potential area.

Your polyanna concept of peace and order to develop needs refining.

I’m all for responsible environmental stewardship, but not profit oriented obstructionism. We need improved laws to handle invasion by professional foreign protesters, and strong leaders to back them up.

Fusion to produce hydrogen seems possible. Then your dream will have an answer.

Yes indeed...."Proven Reserves" are always minimized as they would be subject to various financial and tax issues. They bear no resemblance to what is actually there and perhaps growing every day. https://www.usnews.com/opinion/blogs/on-energy/2011/09/14/abiotic-oil-a-theory-worth-exploring
