Last 2 paras superb. America is so fortunate to have Biden. Perhaps, and just perhaps, the vile headbanger Trump got elected because Americans did not want Hilary Clinton?

Also remember the Ugly American's Dad did not join up to fight Hitler on some false health report.

I wish the media would stop obsessing about this man.

1) Donald J. Trump doesn't give a damn about this country.

2) Donald J. Trump doesn't give a damn about the Republican Party, either.

3) Donald J. Trump cares about one thing and one thing only, and that is Donald J. Trump.

4) If he burns down the country in order to gratify his colossal ego, he is perfectly fine with that.

5) The Republican Party leadership is feckless and cowardly, and will remain completely in thrall to him and his cultish supporters.

6) If you don't believe any of the above, just look at how long it took any "leaders" in the party to condemn him having a meal with an avowed Jew-hater and a Neo-Nazi. In many cases, we're STILL waiting for that condemnation.

7) MAGA nation is also perfectly fine if the nation is destroyed, so long as the end result is that "it" is in power at the end and the Democrats are not.

8) This country is in serious trouble, for all of the reasons listed above. We need two (or more) serious political parties which may differ on policies but who both ultimately want what is best for the country. We do not have that anymore, nor is there any sign of the situation improving (no one should bring up Governor DeSantis in Florida; he's just a more polished and smarter version of POTUS45).

I still remain amazed at the low bar many Americans set for their 'leaders'. No matter how egregious Trump acts or speaks, his followers not only support him BUT praise him. My respect for Americans has plummeted to a very low measure of 'intellect'. Sadly, my friends in USA, that I have known and respected for so long, seem outnumbered by such fools who support a Bonafide 'goon'.

40% of Republicans are Trumpists and the Rs represent 30% of the total declared electorate (Dems roughly 40% and independents the biggest bloc).

For Republicans, the choice wil come down to what do you love, a deeply flawed power hungry bully, our your country. They cannot choose both because that is not a reasonable or logical option.

As for dealing with the bully, a long term strategy requires withholding attention from him. This is not simply ignoring him because he must be watched at all times; the trick is that he does not get an emotional charge out of the responses his shenannigans produce. Minimize mention of his name and the names of those who support him (or refuse to criticize or chntradict him).

It is unfortunate when Biden and Trump are the likely "best" candidates each party will put forward in 2024. Biden, because, as you say, "at least he's not Trump", and Trump because there's no one else.

When the Left takes all of us this far down their Politically Correct WOKE roadway, people predictably react by moving further to the Right to counter such nonsense.

Politicians (greedy, corrupt, ignorant) and lazy mainstream "journalists" take the easier path (Tax and Spend) and the 40 Watt Lightbulbs who make up most of the public/voters happily follow along.

Complacency in the US and Canada (and other western democracies) is perhaps the largest single threat to our hard earned (and fought) way of life.

I realize you are a die hard liberal, a very good writer, and probably unaware that you are part of the main street media distortion corp.

I wish reporters would get back to telling us an-coloured facts - which on a several occasions you have done in your articles.

Trump was set up and has become the teflon don because "he just didnt do it". Distortions have eroded the truth.

BTW, I am neither liberal, conservative, or socialist - I vote for who I think is the best - which is becoming harder to determine because all politicians seem to distort.

I'm not a die hard liberal but a fiscal conservative and social liberal (politically speaking) which is what the majority of Americans and Canadians are if you look at polling. I don't like Trump because he's an autocrat and a grifter and bully. And the facts in this column are unvarnished fully. He did the dinner, he posted those words, his company was crooked. And he has a grip on the Republican Party with his MAGA minority. That defence of myself aside, I agree with you that main street media (of which I'm not a denizen and is why I'm on substack with my own newsletter) often doesn't get it right and is selective or sloppy in its coverage of many things. Part of that is bias but it's also the fact that the business model is broken. Newspapers and networks are burning their furniture to stay alive --- "news" is already to many people the last thing they heard an uneducated TV anchor say, a website spout, or a politician promoted. So critical thinking, and finding it harder to determine what's going on and who's best as you point out, will be the challenge of this century. Thanks for reading and for your thoughts.

As a long standing conservative - I see bullshit and call it - which is what Trump's full of. My deepest regret was the loss of the voice of Liz Cheney in the Republican Party. She was the only one who stood up and said what had to be said. Trump sat and watched the Captial of HIS country be attacked and did nothing - hmmm - 'he just didn't do it' or 'he was set up' - come on - use your head!

I don't condone attacking your own country, either the capital or multiple city riots called peaceful protests as policemen are injured.

Have you noticed he wasn't guilty in Russiagate; was spied on by FBI; and oh, the election was illegally manipulated by the Democrats - or did you not read the evidence being produced lately.

Not saying I'm for or against him. My point is the distortion game.

No need for a question mark. It’s more appropriate to call it the means by which Clinton Obama Biden sold secrets to the Russians in return for hundreds of million$ https://www.breitbart.com/radio/2020/07/28/john-solomon-joe-biden-was-the-architect-of-u-s-funded-military-espionage-outpost-in-russia/
