Again you have properly captured the complexities of the region and the resulting paralysis of action it engenders. It may be simpler for our “Western” countries just to plainly define who are the bad guys and who are the good guys in this and the chaos seeded around the globe by the “bad guys”. It may take more than just the threat of overwhelming power to rid the planet of the bad guys but falling victim to the paralysis of endless analysis and very long term ivory tower strategies will only lead to the destruction of what Churchill and the previous generation left us through their sacrifices. Every day we delay in using our “power” to destroy the “bad guys” will only lead to more bad guys and likely our own demise. Sorry for the “reality check”.
I see no solution to this - so I will refrain from commenting OTHER than, when Russia invaded UKR and the mass murders, rapes, torture, kidnapping children etc. that they perpetrated on UKR only says that this world has to stand up, united against terrorist organizations EVERYWHERE.
To better understand America’s long history of repeated failures relating to Iran one should read “ The Twilight War “ by David Crist.
The State Department, Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama, Ben Rhodes, Valerie Jarret and Robert Malley are the most recent examples of Americans that misread and misunderstood the Iranian theocracy and its aspirations.
Againy your analysis is superb re Iran the real enemy ruled by people who detest not only Israel but the west. Russia and Turkey also. The heart of the matter is the system growth of anti semitism here in craven Canada and in the west generally Look at craven licksppittle UN. Hamas and Iran determined to destroy Israel and now Israel must destroy it as the allies destroyed Germany and yes it involves the deaths of innocent civilians which we regret but needs to be done to uphold western civilization. Get this message craven left wing anti Israeli media. And Trudeau
If only we could identify the bad guys once and for all. What if: "Are we the baddies?" See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWvpvlT9pJU Mitchell and Webb's hilarious skit. In WW2 we were the goodies, though Air Chief Marshall Arthur Harris recognized that reducing to rubble 210 German cities would not play well in any scenario short of unconditional victory; my father was one of his bomber pilots. Our co-foundational text in western civilization The Iliad dealt with this by implicating the gods in every dodgy decision, e.g. Achilles: "But if the man in question cannot give, Because the god in him that makes the King his chief dependent, Is part and parcel of the god that cries 'Revenge!' when he is wronged, What happens then?" Agamemnon responds: "But I am not to blame...I tell you it was not my wish, Between my judgment and my action Ahtay fell, God's eldest girl, contentious Ahtay..." I think Shakespeare is of the same mind: "As wanton boys to flies are we to the gods, they kill us for their sport." For sure this is Israel's existential threat but it seems that it is also all of our existential condition.
Thank you Diane, excellent recap of the Middle East issues. The simple question is can we / they unscramble this omelette? So many people hurt over decades of mis-management and competing agendas. So many tyrants with no empathy for human life and their citizens, look at the number of refugees that have been displaced. The people who drive these agendas all live in luxury and with protection.
Agreed

Agree and can't like this enough!
