Super article Diane. What a thoroughly stupid cruel arrogant country. Nationalism again killing millions totally unnecessarily. The refusal to import effective Pffizer Moderna Astra vaccines is incredible. We need a vaccine against nationalism.

Not only does it threaten China's own future but that of all countries that rely so heavily on China's industrial output. That means the U.S., too. We should never have become so dependent on such an autocratic and untransparent a source for everything we use.

Amazing how 'getting' it cheap (aka Wally world) can kick you in the back end - in the end. Many saw this coming but the 'greed of people' ignored the warnings.

Excellent analysis Diane. For years we have been led to believe that China was a 'superior' power - and to be feared. However, it appears that when people are truly free, only then can you become a 'power' that is sustainable. China has failed on that front.

What does China provide its people normally in terms of public health care? I have read that people are on their own to pay for medical care. Also that old people are on their own or reliant on relatives. I don’t know if this is true. But if so, it seems to reveal a background and also a lack of infrastructure to take care of public health. Then the Covid-19 crisis hit and their government has responded in a top down, military like way, which is unsuited to the problem and the needs.

But I don’t know the factual background of what this government provided for public health, other than the general idea I had above, so please enlighten me.
