In the mid 60s doctors in Vancouver were prescribing rxs for Valium, Librium, secobarbital, for anxiety and sleep aid as well as amphetamines to lose weight. All addictive and dangerous medication.

As a young pharmacist working at London drugs we dispensed thousands of rxs of these meds. Purdue was none existent

It was big pharma like Lilly, Hoffman la Roche , smith Kline French etc..the full list of these molecules were several pages.

Times have definitely changed but one could definitely question the integrity of most big pharma in addition to the criminality of Purdue. Just watch the smiling folks in a pharma ad today as the voice over list side effects like death. “ buyer be ware”

Wow Diane: Another great one. I pray justice will be done, because this scourge is not only killing our citizens, but our economy. And more, the drug thugs are money laundering their ill-gotten gains big time in Canada. While the CRA empties the pockets of hard-working, taxpaying citizens, these thugs are not only getting away with murder, but not paying a cent of tax on a money-laundering scam worth billions and billions.

Interesting typo rather early on in your very informative piece. You entered Sacker which sounded fairly appropriate to me. The dirty Sacklers have proved no better for this country than the marauding hoards who ended up sacking Rome.

The Sackler family is evil and their wealth was obtained by killing people. Diane - you left out the other evil twin - the McKinsey Consulting organization - who helped write the marketing plan. Being in the industry my whole life - these people are considered scum and don't represent the many hardworking scientists and executives that make it their "job" to better peoples lives with life saving medicines. I would jail each of them - 10 to 25 years and no parole please....and take back all their wealth, the billions - give it to the 500,000 families that they murdered. Nice job on a story that should be repeated and repeated...

A good friend of mine died from oxycontin overdoses here in Toronto. The doctor who prescribed the drug should lose her professional license . But nothing was or is being done in Canada.

Thank you, Diane. This family MUST be stripped of wealth and sent to prison.

Well said. You always draw attention to issues that seem to be ignored or forgotten in the MSM. Furthermore, you seem to be sincerely driven by conscience and morals, not by party politics or conventional political positions.

Very Good Article.

Thank you! More needs to be done about white collar crimes, period. Too many get off with a slap on the wrist and a trivial (relative to their wealth) fine. But as one reader below adds, the physicians who prescribe drugs knowing their bad reputation should lose their licenses. I was given HRT by a Chicago gynecologist although I had zerio symptoms and a very easy climax. I'm still producing extrogen 20 years later. But what the HRT did was made ms completely suicidal the 8th day of every cycle. I wasn't depressed, so after 4-5 months of this weird one-day state, I realized what was going on and threw the rest of the drugs in the garbage. Imagine if I had been depressed, I might well have killed myself.

Re article on how some provinces Quebec and East leverage their capacity to influence financial and political capital, needs an equitable review. Canada is now 154 Years into the Confederation challenge from to coast to coast to coast. At same time we are still represented with Governor Generals one for each Province and one Federally to the British Monarch. Perhaps it is time to understand how it is that after 154 years some provinces are sending our tax $$$ to the founding provinces. Who deem it necessary that we support their Provincial Budgets at the expense of others. just asking.

Great article and if there is going to be any accountability in the Purdue Bankruptcy SCAM we need the SacklerACT.org to pass.
