I have soured on the Olympics over the years, as the idealism of youth has worn thin. The ideals of a "pure" spirit of sport have been superseded by the business of sport. Too much emphasis on medals, and a loss of the exhilaration of participating. Too much emphasis on nationalism, not enough on friendship and camaraderie. Why is there so much incentive to cheat to win a game? Why are some so motivated to win that they would choose to take life-shortening drugs to guarantee a medal?

Perhaps we should include aircraft carriers, destroyers, missile launchers and tanks in the Olympics !
