Once again Diane Frances on America and the World provides me with everything I need to know about such matters as the geopolitical and economic situation in the Far North.
An incredibly well-researched and informative overview (as always) of an almost forgotten (especially by the mainstream liberal media), but strategic and critical issue to all of us.
The accurate photograph of Canada's naval defensive measures in the Arctic is priceless but should be updated (by someone with lots of time on their hands) to replace "Martin" with "Trudeau" on the sign. The flintlock rifle is perfect. What a complete embarrassment (but well deserved).
Humor aside, politicians (and media) in the other seven countries need to wake up to Russia's continued aggressions beyond Ukraine because they aren't going away anytime soon.
This article shook me to the core!!! As a Canadian I am embarrassed by the report BUT not surprised. From the start of PM Paul Martin and continuing on, our leaders have neglected to keep Canada strong - PERIOD - our military's on life support. For decades I've been writing to my gov't rep etc literally screaming that our forces are a joke - our equipment is a joke. Canada used to build ships AND developed an amazing aircraft which was scuttled by our gov't - and all our bright engineers move to - you know where - USA - gone!!! Diane really didn't mince words on her report on the anemic attitude of Canada's federal gov't - THANK you Diane but I don't see this present PM doing much more than selfies thanks to his buddy (PM behind the scene) Jughmeet Singh.
Yes, your research is very good and eye opening. I, too, am embarrassed by our small military contribution (although I think our forces are very well trained - and experienced).
While the Russians are at it, why don't they demand the return of the California coastline as well?
Also, and to go back to a point that I have made before, I know that the Russians and Chinese are great buddies right now, but historically that has not been the case. In fact, relations between the two countries are generally quite frosty. So, I can't help but wonder when this latest "detente" will break down.
Very good article. A lot of money still in oil and Russia's claim in the arctic can make billions in oil that Russia can drill for. Another article from BBC on Russia and Arctic. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-60837944

What a sad saga of political neglect! Unfortunately it’s not only the Navy that’s been given short shrift. Shameful!
