Families fleeing violence and poverty in Central America have every reason and right to claim refugee status. America's foreign policy chickens are coming home to roost.

Best encourage the chickens to stay at home by reversing that foreign polcy practice and creating conditions in those countries that generate hope. Bernie Sanders was right and without the American drug demand this problem...and Mexico's...would be a lot easier to solve; it would deprive the cartels of their most important source of revenu that enables them to run and "police" their supply chain.

NOT true. What drives the cartels is CORRUPTION that runs from the normalization of law breaking in even everyday activities such as paying off a traffic c op on up to Walmart Mexico paying large bribes to officials to ease its way in. The cartels are also engaged in extorting avocado growers because exports of avocados are a huge and highly profitable business. Shall we stop our importation of avocados?

Mexicans have to address their corruption in their own country, just as Central Americans have to in theirs. These are some of the most corrupt countries in the world, according to Transparency International. Meanwhile, migration to the US has been a safety valve for the corrupt elites of these countries.

Wrong! I experienced it first hand in LA. The illegals aren’t fleeing anything. They come in illegally, make good money, pay no taxes and send the money back to the country they are “fleeing” and then return to live like kings. All on the backs of the tax paying Americans. Don’t speak about things you clearly know nothing about.

Fascinating breakdown of an incredibly tragic situation. Thank you.

Regardless of the problems of this tragic situation only the fair application of the "Rule of Law", non partisan application of solutions and a change of attitude of pretend adults will make a difference. Freedom is "earned" not given - no matter where you live.
