It really seems that Trump considers the world as a pool of unrelated real estate targets. One sees it in his Art of the Deal, where lying and cheating are main tools, and that there has to be a winner and a looser. There is no understanding there of how the real world is so interconnected, and one reason why Trump’s strategy is so misguided. The best thing that one can say about the whole thing is that Trump is accelerating the unification of the world’s democracies more than any other event since WWII (against the USA).

I agree - what has happened 'within USA' has really put them in a loser position with world opinion. Democracies will join & always protect from ever facing this kind of betrayal again. I hope Germany can pull out of the mess they're in. Don't need a repeat of Hitler & company.

Trump's favoritism toward Putin can be expained through his envy of Putin's power. He sees each of them (and Xi) as gang leaders, and Putin as the most powerful of them. He nelieves that if he can be accepted by Putin as one of oligarchs, he will be in position to challenge him for the top spot. In his blind ambition, Trump believes he can outsmart Putin. He is willing to bet the entire country on his desire to be the king of the rats.

Trump as “emotionally conflicted” is perhaps the kindest assessment of the man I have heard. The words I use are all south of sane.

One of the larger retail companies I purchased had a few line buyers who seem always favor the wrong supplier and over pay for product. In all cases they were compromised ie on the take!

Trump is “on the take with Putin” or he is just a plain old horses ass.. in my opinion he’s both… god save america

Trump realizes that his 350 is exaggerated, and that 500 is reaching. But if you don’t get over-secured in the beginning, you will be held to your word. When all is finished you can always forgive the balance.

Yes, Norman, I too am concerned about graft in both countries, and the hypothecating of such loans.

I never thought of Trump as a brilliant negotiator, but an experienced SOB who knows how to get his way.

I am trying to understand why Trump is willing to give Putin Ukrainian territories when

Russia's ongoing occupation of 20% of Ukraine's territory isn't just a humanitarian crisis; it's a blatant theft of 100% of the resources. The occupied 20% area possesses vast reserves of rare earth metals, titanium, iron ore, uranium, lithium, coal, oil, and gas, estimated to be worth over $12.4 trillion, located primarily in the occupied regions of Crimea, Donetsk, Dnipro, and Luhansk. Russia has already begun exploiting these resources, even selling stolen Ukrainian wheat for over $1 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. These resources belong to Ukraine and should be developed by Ukraine and its allies, not by Russia the aggressor.

Thank you, Diane. Democracies must take down Putin, he's a war criminal on so many fronts. Trump's acquiescence to Putin is simply treasonous to the US and the World. Trump is so vengeful.

Yes, it was a shameful of shakedown for a fistful of dollars.

But from recent developments in the international scenes, the conference in Munich, the conference in Kyiv, the recent election results in Germany, the support for Ukraine gains strength and substance.

More than 27 countries in Europe pledged support for Ukraine, some even are not in Europe.

American should be shameful of the US right now and should let that feelings known to the world.

I can see the day the Humpty Russia falls down and broken into pieces.

I can see clearly that the US prestige will fade quickly in the international affairs and quickly becoming obsolescence.

Putin may suffer the same fate as Hitler and Mussolini did.

Trump may be humiliated and fades into oblivion.

I so hope you are right.

I fear that the grand plan is to carve the world into 3 parts , shared between Putin, Trump and Xi.

Trump is probably happy to turn Ukraine over to Putin because he is "planning to take" Canada.

But Russia and the US are no longer that powerful. They just think they are via sheer arrogances.

Witness, the tiny Houthi kept the US navy out of the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. The US lost wars in Viet Nam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Witness, Ukraine with drone technology has banished the Russia navy to eastern half of the Black Sea. After three years of war, Russia and Ukraine are essentially in a stalemate.

Europe is supplying what Ukraine needs when the US under this mad and stupid Trump, withdraws all weapons supplies to Ukraine.

The world, especially Ukraine are changing warfare to a new drones (miniaturized warfare) warfare. Ukraine is leading in this field.

The behemoth aircraft carriers and big submarines will soon be liabilities at sea.

Big and expensive fighter planes will soon be a huge burden of costs in defense or offensive tactics.

No, I have no doubt Ukraine and Europe will win this war, albeit Ukraine and Europe will suffer a little longer.

I am losing what respect I had for Trump and the Americans where their foreign policy is concerned although I still support their Middle East policy. I find it difficult to understand his stance on Ukraine as it seems like an area that we would obviously support them and certainly not Putin.

Predatory capitalism and the financialization of fireign policy at its distorted worst!

Our president appears to be too immature to understand the efficacy of non transactional relationships; those built on the kinds of trust and dependability that evolve from a deeper empathy, and resultant commitments to constitutional freedoms and personal liberty.

The superficiality of his personal relationships bind us as a nation to his superficial visions of limited merchantile goals!

Freedom is so much more than this.

It’s not much of a stretch that Trump would extort Ukraine as that is in his DNA and even he has likely been told that the Marshall plan’s main beneficiary was the U.S. Easy money. I’m not sure that even Trump is vain/naive/stupid/fawning enough to be believe that Putin is his friend. There is certainly a quid pro quo in there somewhere.

When you initially wrote about the possibility of an arrangement between Trump and Ukraine Diane, I was encouraged. It turns out Trump is clearly one of Putins' people and has been so for decades.
