Trump is dancing with whoever will make him look good, either Zelensky or Putin. As he said about John McCain, he doesn't like losers.

I just want to see Ukraine freed from Putin's assault on a peaceful nation.

It's hard to imagine someone signing up to serve in Putin's war; the financial rewards are definitely short-lived.

It shows the tide has turned in UK's favor - but it's fluid & with Trump involved - well - no bets on his ability to do the right thing becuz he cares NOT about UKR - but the polls in USA have pushed him to 'seem' abliging' (he cares very little about anything except himself)

Trump just removed sanctions from 3 Russian oligarchs and one business in Turkey which will help Putin. Trump has always been on the make. I expect those lifted sanctions have enriched Trump considerably. His corruption is boundless, on a par with his ability to tell big lies.

There was method to Trump's madness. Given that so many Russians complained about entire battalions getting wiped out without them seeing a single Ukrainian soldiers, it is possible that Ukrainian civilians were taking the entire hit. If that is the case then Trump was pulling out all the stops to kiss Putin's butt to get him to a ceasefire and negotiation. The negotiation would be moot since Drill Baby Drill will crush Russia. The Kremlin will have to pay for Ukraine to ship all its stuff out of Donbas.

While Putin is desperately trying to tease some sparks from the embers of the "Anchorage Understanding" and Trump is trying to stamp them out, I think that Zelensky, not Trump, should get the prize for throwing a bucket of water on that idiotic love-fest. It's like the old saying that a loser is an orphan, but a winner has many fathers.

I distinctly remember how smug and self-satisfied Putin looked throughout his meeting with Trump, and the big smiles they exchanged when he left. I also remember the numerous reports of a big argument Trump had with Zelensky immediately afterward when Trump tried to get Zelensky to agree with the 20-point "peace plan" that everyone acknowledged was drafted in the Kremlin. I suspect that Trump, true to form, assured Putin that he would pressure Ukraine to accept it (including the ceding of Ukrainian-held territory in Donbas), but Zelensky dug in his heels and refused to budge other than agreeing to negotiate its terms. That, I believe, is what Putin and Lavrov have in mind when they refer to the "Spirit of Anchorage". Ukraine's Foreign Minister drove a wooden stake into the heart of that "Spirit" when he said, "Any peace plan developed without Ukraine is doomed to become a spirit and disappear."

So why is Trump now singing a different tune? Is this the same Donald Trump who said that Ukraine is the cause of the war because it failed to capitulate when Russia invaded? I won't believe that he has had a change of heart until I see his presidential limousine bearing a "Don't Mess with Ukraine" sticker.

We can certainly hope that the threat of the American midterms will finally end Trump's dallying with Putin. Ukraine should have Crimea back. Doing it the hard or military way will reestablish their credentials as a an independent nation with a future.

I don’t think the Ukrainians can re take the Donbas, but it looks like they might take Crimea. Putin is not ready to negotiate in my opinion. The question is what will happen if he won’t? Will there be a coup? What are the chances that Russia could become a failed state? Could this war last through next winter?

During ww2 twice as many civilians died as soldiers. The only way this ratio will change is one bullet, one kill - and that can only be done by tiny smart drones. Hypersonic missiles only make a mess.

UKR is finally getting the level of technological and political support from Europe and elsewhere that it has needed since ‘22. The upgraded weaponry, ballistic and otherwise, will send a message to all Russian citizens, including Putin and his corrupt cohort, that they ARE losing. Badly. And it’s only gonna get worse for its government and citizenry, with every passing day.
