Thanks for the detailed info Diane - I'm reaching for my Tylenol now - sadly I have little hope for a resolution in my life time - there's just too much hate & distrust & a will for living in peace.
The moral test for Trump's fix it promises is not the Middle East, but Eastern Europe. Lets see how his team resolves the Ukrainian stand-off and rebuilds the decimated region with a realistic security guarantee to contain Putin's empire. The Middle East is a long standing tribal mess which the West has never figured out. Keeping China out of Latin/South America seems like a more workable plan.
What an endless mess but no need to worry as that man in the White House will solve it all and also get Russia out of Ukraine in the twinkling of an eye! Eh, as Canadians say!
I would love to see a peace deal between Israel and Gaza with the proviso that neighbouring Arab states agree to take in 100's of thousands currently in the refugee camps. For too long have the Arab states, their fellow brothers in religion (mostly) and historical ties, stood on the sidelines when their brothers live in squalor, while the West takes in them in on humanitarian grounds. Many of foreigners who do not share our values. Why should the west continue to take them in, often to the detriment of their own citizens, who seem to have no say in the matter. They also cause massive problems in the western countries that would be avoided or at least minimized. If the refugee camps could be drastically reduced, surely this would be a great move to ensure a de-escalation of hateful rhetoric. Look after you own Arabs. We in the west need a rest.
The ceasefire in Gaza seems like an antacid pill for stomach ulcers. Temporary relief but cures nothing. Emptying the Israeli jails of some of the most vile Palestinians will not help the Palestinian people and will definitely harm long term peace in the area. The Israeli win was with Iran and Russia losing their regional influence when the money ran out for their proxies and the importance of that development cannot be understated. The prisoner release merely lights a new fuse.
If the deal does not hold, and history shows it will not. One or the other side will do something that the other sees as unacceptable and it will start up again. With as you put it the "vile Palestinians" released from the prison resume active service with Hamas or Hezbollah again, perhaps they will finally become the martyrs they apparently aspire to.
A final, fair, resolution of the Israeli assault on the Human Rights of the Palestinian people is the necessary condition required for peace in the Middle East. Without that resolution, the latest violence will become yet another episode in a sorry history going back almost a century of a movement attempting to replace an existing population with another population from elsewhere.
All the other details mentioned in this fine article, however resolved, will lead nowhere without this essential issue being resolved.

Picking up the pieces will be like the childhood game pick up sticks. One misstep and you start all over..

Would Trump be capable of participating in an international alliance?
On his terms sure

Sure, great idea as long as you also acknowledge the 'human right' to life, that the Israelis have endured for decades. Shit goes both ways. eh!
Of course.
