good article Diane. We have been so busy with the domestic chaos that Russia has been instigating here with the help of callous pols and right-wing news sites we were not looking at what else is happening. The constant 24/7 focus on Donald Trump for the past 5-6 years has sucked all the oxygen out of life in America. What happens in China will absolutely affect us here.
Hello. Trump was the first to pierce the veil of China's "friendship" created by the Clintons and Obama's. And the "domestic" Russian chaos was all a forgery to stop Trump who was arming Ukraine and getting Europe to switch from Putins Pipeline US gas.
Yes and the media obsession has increased on the outrageous behaviour of Trump. His failure and his GOP's failure to follow the advice of Fauci resulted in the deaths of some 500,000 Americans tell us a lot about the way America was governed under Trump. He acted in an immoral ignorant way. China reacted in the extreme opposite way and saved lives.
diane ...this is not a new problem....william johson wrote a book entitled '''anlophobia mada in quebec''.....so the problem goes back years .......but legault and his so called minister of immigration and inclusion [[read exclusion]]...simon jolin barrette have taken things to a new level ...they have closed several english schools , abolished english school boards, mandated french treatment of english patients in hospitals ...attacked the right of students to attend english cegeps etc etc ...have a loo k at thomas mulcairs comments on this racist and offensive legislation.....robert ash Q.C.
refreshing and well done ....but how about an article on quebecs egregious bill 96.....racist and highly discriminatory ....it represents yet another attack against quebecs english minority.......and what has trudeau done about it???....nothing
''etapism'' is the current separatist strategy ....bill 96 effectively effects separation ....but retains the benefits of huge transfer payments and relations with canada.....meanwhile quebec anglos are under continuous attacks from the CAQ ....and trudeau does nothing ....close to one million quebec anglos have left quebec in the last thirty years ....and the federal government does nothing ....the situation is like a large elephant in the room .....and politicians pretend to ignore it....albertans though have had enough ....perhaps the situation is coming to a head.....
I HAD FORGOTTEN TO MENTION THAT MULCAIRS COMMENTS WERE ON CTV...by the way i truly love your newsletter....time for some objective and well researched journalism .....you really hit the mark
Oh dear. And did not Trump tell people to swallow bleach to prevent them getting covid? Or did the media make that up? Oh and the vaccines to prevent deaths from covid are not doing so? You are wrong again.
Very good article Diane esp. 'the Russian occupation of a gigantic Ukrainian nuclear plant has alarmed everyone on the planet. Last week, China spoke against this nuclear brinkmanship, and India voted against Russia at the United Nations' Security Council for the first time after abstaining for months and refusing to condemn the invasion' Wonder where Japan stands in this?
Thousands of investors from Mainland China have been influencing Real Est in Canada & elsewhere. The commodity? A contract to buy a Condo yet to be built. The contract had the value. Contract got assigned(sold) many times during multi year construction period. Inflation in building costs alone, meant easy profit. This Commodity seldom existed in our markets before 2000. I am guessing much of this business practice existed in China. The housing played a secondary role to the value of the right to buy. Damaging?? I think so, but haven’t read any genuine unbiased research on how much
Thank you. What I didn’t understand at that time or now is the inaction by regulators or CRA. Creating policy(ies) to fix this seems so simple. I recall reading articles which showed lists of contracts (Canadian Presale Real Estate) advertised in store fronts in Asia. Why the regulator inaction?
China has very little external debt so that means any implosion would have rippled effects but not bring down everything. However, it's just another crisis along with the costsof the war on Europe
It leads to higher costs for consumer products....and good riddance. How many Chinese products has everyone had that never performed as pictured on Amazon or failed in the first couple weeks. In the near term, it will be cheaper to spend a bit more on quality but have it last much longer.

Thanks Diane.
Unbelievable. Thank you for the clear and understanding of this world shattering paradigm.
Now if we only had a leader of this country, truly understand what next steps Canada should take outside of a photo opp.

thanks. Japan is totally onside with Ukraine and China, part of the Quad with US, Australia and India
Good news.
Could I add incompetence?

stupidity, corruption, bank and legal lobbying, secrecy protection provided foreigners, lack of transparency, client confidentiality nonsense, organized crime
Given our interconnected economy, couldn't a Chinese collapse plunge the world into a depression (or am I overreading the situation?)?
